The project of "Study on Mercury Release Characteristics During Sewage Sludge Incineration Process" was awarded excellent according to the document "Results of the Final Acceptance of 2022 Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program of Taiyuan University of Technology" issued by College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship on May 26, 2022. There are 115 innovative training projects in total, among which 12 were evaluated as excellent projects. The leader of the project team is Cheng Peng, and the members are Du Jian, Liu Panlin, Liu Yali, and Cui Wenke. And the director is Professor Fan Baoguo, Department of Thermal Engineering, College of Electrical and Power Engineering.
The project is aimed at the problem of heavy metal pollution in the disposal of sewage sludge during the incineration process of multiple sewage sludge. The combustion characteristics and heavy metal mercury release characteristics were systematically studied, providing a certain theoretical basis for the clean incineration technology of sewage sludge.
Under the guidance of Professor Fan Baoguo, the members started from their own professional knowledge and explored the internal structure and logic of different knowledge. They sought the breakthrough point between theory and practice, updated the knowledge framework, opened up innovative thinking, and improved practical ability. The team successfully achieved the objectives set at the project approval and published two academic papers, that is, "Mercury Emission Characteristics in the Combustion Process of High-sulfur Coal Slime", "Study on Mercury Emission Characteristics of Sludge-Slime Coupled Fuel Co-combustion Process". Further the members applied for one national invention patent "A Sewage Sludge Pretreatment Device and Method Using Pulsed Magnetic Field Synergistic Fenton Oxidation Reaction", and designed and manufactured a filter device of sewage sludge. In 2021, the leader Cheng Peng took part in Siemens Cup-China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge and won the national second prize. Through the training of the project and their own efforts, four team members were admitted as 2022 postgraduates by Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Taiyuan University of Technology.
